Unrefined Beeswax as the Most Nutritious Natural Cosmetic Base

Untitled design (20)

BEESWAX is formed in the wax glands of worker bees and is used for the construction of honeycombs and covering its cells.

Not every type of beeswax is the same; we distinguish between:

  1. white wax (cera alba) — wax that has been processed;
  2. yellow wax (cera flava) — wax of a higher quality than white wax, unprocessed wax; and
  3. capping wax — unprocessed wax, in its original form, the highest-quality wax taken directly from the honeycomb that contains large amounts of nutrients.

Properties and composition of beeswax:

  • at room temperature, it is brittle and has a compact structure;
  • it melts at 61°C–66°C;
  • it is tasteless and has a specific odor;
  • it contains large amounts of nutrients; and
  • it can be applied to the skin but is also edible.

The composition of wax consists of esters (70%–75%), hydrocarbons (11%–17%), fatty acids (12%–15%), water (0.1%–2.5%) as well as minerals, aromatic substances, carotenoids, free alcohols, flavones and other bee substances, i.e., pollen and propolis.

Application and positive effects of beeswax

It is used in medicine, pharmacy, cosmetics and industry.

It is used in the treatment of wounds, skin problems and skin diseases, it is highly nutritious and has a regenerative effect on damaged cells, but there are no undesirable side effects and it can be used by both children and adults.

Scientifically proven effects

A collection of scientific papers from recent years also shows the antimicrobial efficacy of beeswax. This effect is further increased in synergy with other natural products, such as honey or olive oil.

Special-purpose beeswax-based creams

The main raw material is capping wax, unrefined beeswax without any processing, which is a raw material with more than 300 active components.

It acts as a protective and, at the same time, permeable layer on the surface of the skin, helping to prevent moisture loss and keep the skin soft and hydrated.

This barrier made by beeswax also serves to protect the skin from harmful external effects, such as environmental pollution, traffic pollution and cigarette smoke.

It contains an abundance of highly unsaturated fatty acids important for the skin that ensure a healthy and undamaged hydrolipid barrier of its surface layer.
